The Nicholls State University men's basketball team (0-1) overcame a ten-point first half deficit to take a 36-33 halftime lead, but a 21-7 second-half run by Duquesne (1-0) gave the host Dukes an 85-62 win in the season opener for both teams and spoil Nicholls' hopes for an upset in Pittsburgh on Friday night.

Nicholls was led by junior guard/forward Anatoly Bose, who totaled 23 points on 35.0 percent shooting (7-for-20, 4-for-12 from three-point range), and sophomore guard Fred Hunter who posted 12 points and a team-high 7 rebounds in Nicholls first-ever contest against a current member of the Atlantic 10.

Bose's Career High Not Enough in Hard-Fought Loss to Redhawks

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Junior guard/forward was the leading scorer on the night, totaling a career-high 27 points, and the Colonels produced one of their best defensive efforts of the young season. However, it wasn't enough to help the Nicholls State University men's basketball team (0-4) pick up its first win of the season as the Colonels were outlasted 69-58 by the Miami (Ohio) Redhawks (1-3) on Saturday night at the World Vision Classic at the University of New Mexico.

Anatoly Bose paced the Colonel offense with 23 points, sophomore Fred Hunter added 18 more while finishing one rebound shy of a double-double and the Nicholls State University men's basketball team (1-8) turned in a big second half to pull away from NAIA power Loyola-New Orleans for an 82-66 victory in the Colonels' home opener on Thursday night.

Anatoly Bose Surpasses 1,000 as Colonels Cruise Past Mobile

Anatoly Bose became the latest member of the Colonels' 1,000 point club as the Sydney, Australia native poured in a game-high 25 points to lead the Nicholls State University men's basketball team (3-8) to its third consecutive win on Monday night.

Bose was one of four Colonels to score in double digits against the University of Mobile Rams (5-2). The 81-60 victory over the Rams, who own an exhibition win over DI UL-Lafayette this season and came in ranked 18th in the NAIA in scoring, was Nicholls' third straight against an NAIA in the top 20 in scoring, and the Colonels' third straight victory at Stopher Gym after opening the season with eight consecutive losses away from home.

The Colonels were led once again by junior guard/forward Anatoly Bose. The Sydney, Australia native saw his streak of seven consecutive 20-point games snapped, but still led all scorers with 19 points on 4-for-6 shooting while going 10-for-10 from the free throw line.

He does not get much press in the USA or here in Australia, but Anatoly Bose does look like a future star for Australia.

Bose Scores 40, but Colonels Upset Bid Comes Up Short

from Nicholls State Men's Basketball news

Junior guard/forward Anatoly Bose dropped 40 points on the No. 1 seed and regular season Southland Conference champion Sam Houston State Bearkats (23-7), however, it wasn't enough for the No. 8 seed Nicholls State University men's basketball team (11-19) as the Bearkats withstood a furious second half rally by the Colonels to claim a hard-fought 62-57 win and eliminate Nicholls in the first round of the Southland Conference Men's Basketball Tournament at the Leonard E. Merrell Center in Katy, Texas on Tuesday night.
