Ok he is well and truly back now. 27 points and eight rebounds against a good team in Mississippi

Quote

Mississippi coach Andy Kennedy had a plan to take care of No. 17 Vanderbilt's A.J. Ogilvy and an entire week to install it.

Didn't matter.

"We talked about it for six days," a frustrated Kennedy said after Ogilvy turned in his best game of a very good season.

The 6-foot-11 junior center had 27 points and eight rebounds Thursday night to lead the Commodores to an 82-78 victory, their third straight and 14th in the last 16 games.

Opening Statement:
“We are very happy to be able to come in here and get a victory. They are a good team and I hope they are an NCAA Tournament team. I certainly think they can be. It has obviously hurt them not having Buckner. You can tell that tonight his timing was off. I think he is an important piece for them. Nevertheless, I am really proud of our team of taking that significant hit to the mouth we took to start the game and digging in and having the courage and toughness to play through that.

On Ogilvy:
“A.J. was terrific from start to finish. He dominated the paint. That was one of the things we talked about in the locker room, that if we were going to win this game, we had to win the game in the paint. This is, in my opinion, the best game he’s played all season long. What a great time for it.”

Andy Kennedy Postgame Quotes

On the play of A.J. Ogilvy:
“We had a long preparation and we talked about it for six days. You can’t let him have deep touches because if you let him have deep touches there is no way that you can get help there, because they also have shooters. You have to stay somewhat attached. We were allowing him to get deep touches and allowing him to work, and he did what he does. He got our guys in foul trouble. I thought Reggie (Buckner) was doing a decent job and he gave us a lift. He tweaked his ankle again and he was a little bit tentative. From there, I thought he was a step slow, and obviously [DeAundre] Cranston couldn’t do anything with him. We were trying to double a little bit and just didn’t make the plays. We knew it was going to be an issue and it certainly was.”

Damm, Ogilvy had chance to take the game to overtime against Kentucky, but it rimmed out. From watch i saw from this game the other Vandy players are very selfish and play for themselves. WTF were they thinking trying to shoot a 3 with 5 seconds to go? when a 2 pointer or going to the line would have been the far smarter play.

After Andrew Ogilvy has 27 points against Mississippi , he only gets 8 shoot attempts for the game against Kentucky? Make no sense at all. Especially when Jermaine Beal and Jeffery Taylor shoot a combined 6 from 19. I'm angry!!!!!!!!

At least Jermaine Beal is gone next year, this game will do him no favours in becoming a pro, we might see him in a gold coast blaze uniform next yer

Andrew has posted double figures in both games. Vanderbilt look NCAA bound now.

Haha... Yeah well...

Stallings is a great recruiter but a lousy game coach. And not one of the Vandy guards can make a post entry pass.

I was listening to him in an interview after a game say something along the lines of "We are much more balanced as a team since AJ was a freshman, that is why his stats haven't gone up in the next two years". It is garbage - Vandy plays 8 guys about the same minutes and 10 guys over all and only 6 of them really deserve minutes. His sub patterns are bizarre and when everyone KNOWS who your best players are - but you don't play them more than 24 min per game, you don't take advantage of what you have. As a coach, I know I ride my best players. Barring foul trouble AJ should be playing 35mpg - he is barely above 24mpg.

Stallings (and some of the players) are attempting to screw up what should have been an easy win tonight versus Florida.

First ten minutes Vandy were killing Florida. AJ had a few baskets, a few rebounds and Jenkins and Taylor were playing well... And just when they were getting into a flow HE SUBBED THEM OUT. As a player, it is so hard to come out when you are playing well and the sub patterns Stallings use make it really hard to get into any sort of rhythm.

Unsurprisingly Florida recovered and end up down only 5 at half...

In the second half, Vandy then went into a 'no post play, selfish BS shot' stretch until they ended up down 5.

Finally Vandy got back into a bit of a rhythm and are currently trying to hang on tough Beal just turned it over because he doesn't understand how to pass on a pick and roll. I wont be sorry to see the back end of Beal - and Nomisg - you are right he is a perfect NBL import - selfish, limited skills and low basketball IQ. Should fit right in.

Florida TO to set up a play to either draw or tie at the buzzer... 17.3 seconds left.I am not kidding, this should have been a Vandy 20 pt win.

Vandy escape - Florida missed a wide open 3 to win it and Vandy hit a couple of freebies to ice it.

AJ got a write up in Draft "We Hate Australians" Express.com

http://www.draftexpr...ew-Ogilvy-1331/

Actually because this wasn't written by Jonathon Givony (who btw scouts overseas for the the NZ Breakers) who only likes athletes and not basketball players, this new update is reasonably fair.

While I continually blame Stallings for his incredible lack of coaching ability, AJ has to have some blame as well for his lack of aggressiveness. I totally agree that he needs to fix his shooting mechanics, be more aggressive and get with a personal trainer to maximize his athletic ability. I also see that away from Stallings and in a different setting he will be able to better show his stuff.

I do like the comment in this article which wonders why he doesn't play more considering his offensive production per minute numbers... Yeah we ALL wonder that.

Although I expect AJ to play another year in college, I also expect him to take advantage of the rules which allow him to declare for the draft and then pull out before the deadline to leave your name in. This will give him experience in the draft process and also more exposure to coaches other than Stallings.

Stallings zone is the worst zone I have ever seen in Division 1 college basketball. Basically he plays a 2-1-2/2-3 zone. You know - the same one that every D grade rec league plays in Australia recreational leagues.

Vandy getting played tough by Murray State. MSU up 1 with about 1 minutes to go.

AJ has dominated when he has been out there. Unfortunately Stallings again has not managed the game well (surprise, surprise) and he has played limited minutes through imaginary 'foul trouble', substitute pattern coaching and un-needed rest substitutions.

Oh and Vandy has jacked up some bad threes as well as bad times.

And Vandy lose on a buzzer beater....

Frankly Vandy didn't deserve to win this. When your best player gets only 7 shots and isn't in the game quite a bit of the time, you don't deserve to win.

It is going to be interesting to see what happens to Vandy next year.

If you want to see a contrast on a good game coach and a bad game coach - watch the St Mary's game and how Bennett dealt with Omar Samhan's foul trouble and how SMC took advantage of Samhan's advantage over the Richmond's front line.

Also watch how SMC deliver the ball to Samhan and players in the post versus how Vandy doesn't. That is just good teaching.

Oh, from the SMC after game quotes from Randy Bennett:

"They didn't have a matchup for Samhan," said Saint Mary's coach Randy Bennett, who brought the school its first NCAA victory in six tries since 1959. "All year long, when people don't have a matchup for him, our guards are good enough passers, smart enough players -- they'll make you pay if you don't have a guy out there that can guard him."

Samhan scored the Gaels' first 10 points, but he picked up his first foul 5 minutes into the game and his second midway through the first half. Richmond led 19-17 at the time, and Bennett didn't give much thought to sitting Samhan down."If you have a guy like Samhan, why would you sit him when he only has two?" Bennett said. "I haven't been a big believer of that. It depends on how smart your player is. Omar is a key player to us. He was tonight. The more minutes we can have him out on the floor, no question he's better for us."

Couldn't have written it better myself. If you have a massive mismatch it is no good having him on the bench.
