HOMICIDE WINS NBL MVP AWARD

Townsville Crocodiles’ star point guard Corey ‘Homicide’ Williams has been named the winner of the Andrew Gaze Trophy as the National Basketball League’s Most Valuable Player for the 2009/2010 season at the NBL and WNBL Awards Dinner in Melbourne on tonight.

Williams received 92 votes to take the award from Adelaide 36ers forward Adam Ballinger, who polled 80. Melbourne Tigers’ forward Mark Worthington came in third place with 72 votes, followed by Wollongong Hawks’ guard Tywain McKee in fourth place with 70 points. Perth Wildcats forward Shawn Redhage, whose team won the 2010 NBL Championship, was fifth with 69 points.

Williams, who has now been a Croc for three years, averaged 18.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.1 assists over his 31 games this season, shooting the ball at 50.6% from the field. For the second year running Williams led the Crocodiles to a Semi Final berth.

Williams becomes only the second Croc to win the award after club legend Robert Rose claimed the honour in 2001.

if u think about it each player is given votes after each game so u can't really predict where that team is gonna end later in the season. ballinger was extremely consistent in a team that wasn't and he wasn't even fed enough ball! i don't care that adelaide totally sucked cos ballinger didn't hence y i think he totally deserves a high spot in the mvp count...

I could name 10 players that would poll higher than Ballinger and Wortho,Penny and both Martins (Perth/Gong)C.J Bruton,Rickert,Lisch,Trigger,Harvey,Ubuka, man even Skip Mills was higher on the ladder.

mvp stands for most valuable player. if adelaide didn't have ballinger they prob wouldn't have even won 1 game. adelaide were in the runnin to make the finals until just before the end. ppl u also need to consider that the votes come after the game and the coach assistant coach and captain vote for who they think is the best player not who is the best team. yeah this may be influenced by how their team went durin that week but south omg look at ballinger's stats he wholly deserves to be mentioned as he was a star in a dud team. and if u compare his stats to some of the players u've mentioned (including mills although everyone no's i think he is the bomb!) eg. rhys martin, rickert, harvey etc u will notice that his are better. another thing in his favour is he was extremely consistent although his team wasn't.

SO Ballinger should be that high in the MVP because if you take him out of the Adelaide team they would go from last to??? Last???

South is right there are at LEAST 10 other players that should be ahead of him this season... Stats mean nothing when you are in the worst team..

Put Chris Anstey from a year ago, Corey williams, Kirk Penny in Radalaide and they would all average at LEAST 28+ppg, when your team sucks some one stands out..

Lisch
Tragath
Ubaka
Penny
all should be heads and shoulders above him in the voting

yeah but when ur team sucks u can afford to double team a player. ballinger would have got alot of attention on d this yr. i'm not sayin he should have won it i'm just sayin that considering how he played (take out his teams performance becos it is mvp!!!) then he was one of the best players in the league this yr.
